Why this schedule

  • 41 days (5.9 weeks) to test day, at about 13 hours a week.
  • With no weak area marked, focus follows exam weight: Leadership, People, Organization lead.
  • SJIs every study day. They are about 40% of the exam, so they get about 40% of your time.
  • 2 full timed mocks on Saturdays, each reviewed on your next study day, with the last three days kept light.
  • Day one is a diagnostic. If it disagrees with your ratings, re-rate and rebuild.

Your December checklist

Six things that decide whether you sit in December, checked against SHRM's exam options and fees page and the 2026 Certification Handbook.

  1. 01

Apply by Dec 24, 11:59 PM ET

Standard applications run Sept 1 – Dec 24: $399 for SHRM members, $499 for non-members. There is no late tier.

  2. 02

Allow 10 business days for your ATT

Your Authorization to Test arrives by email after your application is processed. Apply now if you want a December seat.

  3. 03

Book Prometric the day it lands

Both exams are taken in person at a Prometric center. Holiday-week seats go first, so book early.

  4. 04

Need to move it? Do it 5+ days out

Rescheduling inside 5 days forfeits your fees. You can move into January; the window runs to Feb 15.

  5. 05

Match your ID to your application

Unexpired government photo ID with signature, name exactly as on your ATT. Arrive 30 minutes early.

  6. 06

Know the exam you are walking into

134 questions, 110 scored, in two 110-minute sections. About 40% are SJIs. Scaled score, 200 to pass.
