Use this checklist before opening MyACT. It describes the decisions and records you need, rather than promising that every account will show the same screen sequence. Registration and fee sources checked October 3, 2026. PrepSolution does not register students for the ACT.
This independent guide is published by PrepSolution’s ACT prep team. For the sections and timing behind your registration choices, see the Enhanced ACT format guide.
Before you begin
- Confirm the name on your acceptable identification and the account you will use. Avoid creating duplicate accounts to solve a login problem.
- Gather your high-school details, suitable photo, payment method or counselor-provided waiver, and any college score-report codes you intend to use.
- Check whether your test is a national weekend appointment, a school-day administration or an international sitting. Use the correct registration route.
Complete these eight registration checks
| Step | What to decide or confirm |
|---|---|
| 1. Account | Sign in or create your account through the official MyACT site. Confirm personal details and access to your email. |
| 2. Date | Choose a test whose score-release window fits your college and scholarship deadlines, with a buffer for delays. |
| 3. Location and mode | Check available centers and paper, center-provided online or bring-your-own-device options. Availability varies. |
| 4. Optional sections | Check Science and Writing requirements for each target college, program and your testing channel. |
| 5. Supports | Indicate accommodations or English learner support needs and work with your school official on ACT’s approval process. |
| 6. Score recipients | Decide whether to select the included college reports now. Check how each institution uses scores. |
| 7. Cost and confirmation | Review the actual MyACT total, waiver coverage and terms before payment. Save the confirmed date, center and sections. |
| 8. Photo and ticket | Complete photo requirements by the stated deadline, then check and print the admission ticket close to test day. |
Use the national date and deadline table, paper and online score-release dates and accommodations guide together. A request for supports is not the same as an approval. Do not assume the ordinary registration deadline covers every support request.
Decide on Science and Writing before paying
For national testing, the current base fee is $70, Science adds $5 and Writing adds $25. The four combinations are $70, $75, $95 and $100 before other charges. School-day inclusion depends on the administration. Read our source-linked Science policy examples and Writing decision guide before choosing. Unknown college policies require a check with admissions, not an assumption that every student should add both.
Check fees, waivers and changes
The official fees page lists late registration at $42, standby at $75 and a general change fee of $49. The test-dates FAQ separately lists $44 for a date change; because those pages conflict, confirm the actual charge in MyACT. Our fee and waiver guide explains the distinction. Included score reports cover up to four colleges when codes are provided at registration; additional reports have a fee.
Photo upload and admission documents
Follow ACT’s current photo requirements and the deadline for your appointment. The uploaded photo does not replace acceptable identification on test day. Check the test-day checklist for the ticket, ID, calculator and device preparation that fit your mode.
If the deadline or your plans change
After the late deadline, standby may be available, but it does not guarantee a seat. Use your account’s change process if you need a different appointment rather than assuming a second registration will refund the first. Contact ACT about account or booking problems. For international testing or school-day testing, confirm the applicable process with the official provider or school.
Turn your confirmed date into a study calendar
Record the test and score-receipt deadlines in the same calendar. Then use a baseline-and-review study method and the ACT study plan to plan the weeks you actually have. A booking confirmation is the starting point for preparation, not evidence that any particular score is assured.
