Scale Pressure vs Framework
how to read this
- › The center is one Scrum team. No framework needed.
- › Each outer ring = more teams + more coordination overhead. Pick the innermost ring that actually covers your scale.
- › SoS is lightest — a daily stand-up between Scrum Masters. Use for 2–5 coordinating teams.
- › LeSS keeps Scrum simple at larger scale — one Product Owner, one backlog, multiple teams.
- › SAFe is heavyweight — Program Increments, Agile Release Trains, extra roles. Only use when you truly have 50+ people coordinating across many teams.
Exam Traps
The exam tests awareness, not implementation
Know when each scaling framework is appropriate. Deep implementation mechanics are out of scope.
SAFe is the most structured
Good for large enterprises with many coordinating teams. LeSS keeps Scrum simplicity at scale. Scrum of Scrums is the lightest.
Scaling does not fix bad Scrum
If single-team Scrum is broken, scaling it just multiplies the brokenness. Fix the basics first.
Start small
Scale when you must, not because you can. Fewer moving parts are always easier.
Do not force SAFe
SAFe suits heavy enterprise coordination. Forcing it on small teams is overkill.
A single Scrum team is one kitchen. Everyone coordinates through the head chef.
Two or three kitchens coordinate via a weekly stand-up between head chefs. Lightweight, minimal overhead.
Multiple kitchens, one menu, one head chef setting priorities. Teams stay simple, coordination is centralized.
Many kitchens, release trains, program increments, multi-level planning. Needed for scale, heavy on structure.
